The mother
savors the incompleteness
of the child
and they
dance.

The smaller body circles
the larger erratically,
rebelling out of perfect orbit,
yet drawn, gravely
back into spirals
about the center.

It is bumpily predictable,
a biological translation of Newton.
Distance is the inverse of love,
and proportional to freedom.
